S3 Ep 10 – The Unbroken Horizon Part 1

Welcome back to another episode of the True Fiction Project Podcast! This week I am speaking with author Jenny Brav. She will be releasing her first book, The Unbroken Horizon on August 15, 2023. During this episode, Jenny describes the connection between her own life, where she did humanitarian work for a decade, and her two main characters. Jenny also explains how her humanitarian work led her to a path of holistic healing. Finally, Jenny shares an excerpt of her book, The Unbroken Horizon. In this excerpt, Sarah, one of the main characters, describes in detail with her therapist the moment she found her father dead in their home. Tune in for part 2 of this episode as Jenny discusses her relationship with her father and how she incorporated those experiences in her new book.

IN THIS EPISODE:

[2:20] Jenny describes her work in the humanitarian and holistic health fields. Did her experience impact her character, Sarah, in The Unbroken Horizon?

[5:07] Did Jenny’s relationship with her mother play into either of the main character’s relationships with their mothers?

[9:12] Jenny explains the connection between her holistic health experience and Sarah’s nurse job in the book.

[14:35] Where can listeners get a copy of The Unbroken Horizon and when will it be available?

[16:58] Jenny reads an excerpt from her book The Unbroken Horizon.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

Avoiding wounds that you are still holding on to can leave you doing self-sacrificing and playing a supportive role to everyone else’s life rather than being the main character in your life. Once you face those wounds, you will be able to be the main character while helping others, which will fill your cup so much more.

Therapy is a great way to deal with the wounds or tragedy that you have faced in your past. Allow yourself to feel things, ensure your safety now, and face the hard things.

Many characters in fiction books have ties to the author who wrote the book. They may look different, but each other’s experiences often show up in some way in their work.

BIO:
Jenny Brav was born and raised in Paris, France, to American parents who instilled in her a love of words, a sensitivity to the human condition, and a passion for travel. She did humanitarian work in Asia and the Middle East before settling in Oakland, California, where she practices holistic healing. In her spare time, she writes poetry, dabbles in vegan cooking, chases waterfalls, and caters to her calico cat’s whims.
The Unbroken Horizon, winner of a First Place CIBA award in late historical fiction, is her first novel. It brings together the themes that are close to her heart, especially how we find wholeness within our wounding. [One of her main character’s journey to heal from her father’s sudden death in her childhood, and her exploration to learn more about that lineage, closely mirror Jenny’s own experiences.]
